The 040 Onset is the latest everyday carry blade to be introduced by Buck Knives. This knife is another example of Buck’s commitment to upping its game in the EDC category. Every indication is that this new knife combines the same value and fine craftmanship the brand historically has brought to its hunting and outdoor products. The knife will be made available starting in August.
The Onset Features CPM S45VN Steel
This knife is designed to be modern, sleek, and tough. Its sports a S45VN Bos heat-treated blade with a flat grind. The S45VN stainless steel is designed to offer improved corrosion and wear resistance over other leading steels. This CPM (Crucible Particle Metallurgy) steel uses Niobium and Nitrogen in place of some of the Vanadium and Carbon to enhance the edge retention, as well as the wear and corrosion resistance. It has Rockwell hardness of 59-61.
This knife features a 3 3/8-inch drop-point blade and has an overall closed length of 4 7/8 inches. The 040 Onset opens quickly along a smooth ball bearing pivot by way of a flipper mechanism. The blade stays securely open thanks to a simple, easy to operate frame lock. A black G10 handle scale provides for a secure grip.
