The Fallkniven R2 Scout is a new fixed-blade knife from the Swedish knife company. Small fixed blades are becoming increasingly popular for everyday carry and this particular model might be a good one to put on your list.
Fallkniven R2 Scout: Versatile for its Size
The R2 Scout measures 7.12 inches in overall length, with a 3.14-inch drop-point, plain-edge blade of Elmax steel with a satin finish and a convex grind. It’s sized for convenient carry, but it’s big enough to handle most knife tasks with ease. The knife is a good choice for those seeking a knife with a smaller profile, but it would also be a good choice for anyone with smaller hands.
The black handle is a synthetic material called Thermorun. The knife is a full-tang design, with the tang extending from the end of the handle to provide for light pounding capability. According to Fallkniven, the knife is heavily dimensioned (.188-inch thick steel) to withstand a lot of strain.

The R2 Scout comes with a Zytel sheath with unique two-way locking system.
Innovative, Sure-Locking Zytel Sheath
The Fallkniven R2 Scout comes with a black Zytel sheath that features a two-way locking system that incorporates both spring-assisted retention as well as a latch on one side of the sheath for positive, secure carry. While the knife has a suggested retail price of $273.95, a quick search on some of the knife retailers’ websites reveals it can be had for less than $200.
